Engaging in consistent physical activity yields numerous health advantages:
Children and Adolescents: Regular exercise supports healthy growth, improves cardiovascular fitness, strengthens muscles and bones, and enhances mental well-being.
Adults: Physical activity reduces the risk of chronic diseases such as heart disease, type 2 diabetes, and certain cancers. It also aids in weight management and improves mental health by reducing symptoms of anxiety and depression.
Older Adults: Staying active helps maintain mobility and independence, reduces the risk of falls, and promotes cognitive function.
At Langs, we believe that promoting physical activity and wellness is foundational to building a healthier community. We remain dedicated to providing resources and programs that empower individuals to lead active, fulfilling lives.
Testimonials from Program Participants
Our community members have experienced transformative benefits through participation in Langs' programs. Read their stories below!
For the past year, I have participated in the exercises and physical activity at Langs. They have impacted me in different positive ways:
I feel motivated as it helps me to be physically stronger over time, which is good for my health and physical independence. I also don’t feel alone doing a routine exercise by myself without supervision. At Langs, we have a Registered Kinesiologist who kindly corrects me when I make a mistake related to posture or how to do the exercise so I don’t hurt myself.
They also impacted me mentally and emotionally, not only because there is a respectful and friendly environment where I feel welcomed, but also because other resources are offered to complement the entire exercise and physical activity experience. - Raiza
I have been doing exercise at Langs for several years now. These classes have keep me active and socially involved. There are choices as to when you want to exercise and how often. I strongly recommend doing exercise class at Langs as it will help you keep fit.

I participated in the Sit and Fit program at Langs. Participating in this class made physical activity not only accessible but also helped me to build a sense of community with others who faced similar mobility challenges. As modifications to exercises and equipment use were presented, I always felt supported and encouraged to do my personal best without feeling pressured. Most of what we did I could continue at home in bite-size time chunks til our next class. Due to improved strength, endurance and balance, I believe the Sit and Fit program has also helped build my confidence, and I now regularly take part in other forms of gentle exercise. Just keep moving! - Kathy
I really enjoy the fitness class offered at Langs. It makes me feel both mentally and physically better. The routines are easy to follow. When I complete a session I feel great that I didn't spend my time sitting on my butt. It helps me keep my weight and my sugars under control.
As an added bonus I get to hang out with a great bunch of people all with the same goal. - Anonymous
I absolutely love Langs’ Exercise Classes. Langs is a great place to be. It's not only about learning to exercise safely at my own pace but also about gaining flexibility to keep me safer and energy to move about and do the things I love, it's also about new friends made, being welcome in classes with a fun atmosphere and no judgement. Classes keep me accountable to get out as a senior while taking care of my mental health too. - Anonymous
After joining the Langs Diabetes Education Program, I have benefited not only physically, but mentally and socially. Thank you - Greg
Thank you so much for providing us the opportunity to express our thoughts about this wonderful facility called Langs. Sam and I are proud members of this great facility. We both enjoy the physical activities at Langs. Doing the class exercises has increased our physical endurance, flexibility, and walking ability. Overall, our health has improved tremendously. The instructors at Langs introduce us to various exercises to suit all participants and encourage us to do our best. Langs is a great facility, and we enjoy coming here.

I was reluctant to join the exercise group at Langs as I wasn't comfortable in larger groups and felt quite shy. I wasn't getting very far making changes to my routine on my own and was getting quite discouraged. I deal with anxiety as well as blood sugar problems so I was not doing well. I started to attend the classes and surprised myself with how much I enjoy it. You are free to work to your capabilities but the instructor gently urges you to just push just a little more with a humour that is infectious. I am enjoying the kindness, support and the inclusive vibe that shines from the members of the group. I can't say thank you enough! I now enjoy exercise and make it part of my life. I hate to miss a class! - Anonymous
Langs has so much to offer, and we are truly fortunate to have such a facility in Cambridge. I have been a diabetic for 20 years, and the exercise program has led me to weight loss, a decrease in medication and a boost to my self-esteem. The exercise that is offered on a daily basis is well guided and makes you feel like part of a wonderful family. We used to refer to one of the classes as “Torture Tuesday,” but we now refer to it as “Terrific Tuesday”. Our instructor has gently led us to know that our bodies are able to achieve more than we thought we could. The constant challenge offered in the way of exercise is a wonderful way to learn to overcome obstacles that diabetics face on a daily basis. I would encourage everyone to come and take part. - Dawna
I have seen many improvements in my activities of daily living. My physical activity and exercise have elevated my overall well being. Generalized aches and pains have been minimized significantly. My diabetes has been under control and doctor approved through increased exercise at Langs Community Centre. Having the opportunity to be a part of an exercise program has allowed me the space to socialize. Making friends who encourage each other and share many laughs in the process. - Mary
